Ring gauge – find the right ring size at home

The most important things to keep in mind when trying ring sizes:

Time of day & temperature

• Fingers swell during the day and in warm weather.

• Preferably measure in the afternoon or evening, not early in the morning.

• Avoid measuring when you are cold or very warm.

The right finger

• The same finger on different hands can be a different size (the dominant hand is often slightly larger).

• Measure exactly the finger the ring is meant for.

How the ring should feel

• It should slide on easily, but meet a little resistance over the knuckle.

• It should sit securely without feeling tight.

• You should be able to rotate the ring, but it should not spin on its own.

The width of the ring matters

• Wide rings (around 4–6 mm or more) feel tighter, so you often need to go up half a size. Slim rings usually fit well in the exact size.

Try several sizes

• Try two sizes (for example 17 and 17.5) and see how they feel after a while.
  Keep the ring on for a few minutes, make a fist, stretch your fingers.

Body & everyday life

• Salty food, exercise, pregnancy and hormones can all affect finger size.
  Think about how your fingers usually feel in everyday life, not just at that moment.

Margin of safety

• If you are torn between two sizes: choose the smaller one (it is easier to make a ring larger than smaller).
