The choice of metal shapes both the feel and the character of a ring. Here we go through the difference between red gold, white gold, rose gold and platinum, what carat actually means, and why we work with recycled gold.
Choosing a material – what is the difference?
Red gold
Classic, timeless gold with a warm tone. Hard-wearing, beautiful and easy to wear every day. The most common choice for engagement and wedding rings in Sweden.
White gold
Bright, elegant gold with a modern feel. White gold is rhodium plated to achieve its white surface, and may need re-plating over time.
Rose gold
A warm, soft and romantic tone. The rose hue suits many skin tones and combines beautifully with other shades of gold.
Platinum
An exclusive precious metal with a naturally white tone. Unlike white gold, platinum needs no rhodium plating – the white colour is the metal's own.
Carat – what does it mean?
Carat states the proportion of pure gold a piece contains.

Pure gold is a very soft material and scratches and deforms more easily than alloyed golds such as 18k or 14k. That is why 24 carat is rarely used for engagement and wedding rings meant to be worn daily.
14 carat contains a larger proportion of other metals, which both reduces its exclusivity and can cause a reaction in people with sensitive skin.
We work in 18 carat gold – a balance between strength and an exclusive feel, and the established standard for rings in Sweden.
Recycled gold
Extracting a single gram of newly mined gold means processing a tonne of ore. That is not something we want to contribute to.
We therefore work with recycled gold from certified suppliers, which means the gold is reused and refined without any loss of quality. It reduces the need for new mining – while you get a material with exactly the same beauty and properties as newly mined gold.
Silver
Our jewelry collections also use sterling silver. Our engagement and wedding rings, however, are made in 18 carat gold or platinum, since they are meant to be worn daily over a long time.
Combining metals
There is no rule saying every ring on the same finger has to be in the same metal. A plain band can combine red and white gold, for example, and many people happily wear a white gold solitaire alongside a rose gold eternity ring.
What matters most is that the rings feel right for you and reflect your personal style. If you are choosing several rings, we recommend a band at least 1.7 mm in height, so that any diamonds in the next band have room.
